Elieser Hernández

BIOGRAPHY

Elieser Alexis Hernández was born on May 3, 1995, in Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela. He is a pitcher in the MLB. 

Hernández signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent on May 31, 2012. He played in the Houston organization from 2012 through 2017. During his time with them, he posted a 4-5 record and 3.98 ERA (63.1 ip/28 er) over 15 appearances (11 starts) with Single-A Buies Creek in Astros organization. Hernandez played for the DSL Astros, Gulf Coast Astros, Greeneville Astros, Tri-City ValleyCats, Quad Cities River Bandits, Lancaster JetHawks, and the Buies Creek Astros.

The Marlins selected him from the Houston Astros organization in the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He began the 2018 season on the disabled list with Miami and was activated on May 10. He rehabbed with the Jupiter Hammerheads, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes in 2019. He finished his rookie season going 2–7 with a 5.21 ERA in 65.2 innings.

During his 2018 season, he set a career-high with 5.0 innings pitched in a start on May 16 vs. Dodgers. It tied the mark for the fourth and final time on June 14 vs. San Francisco, his longest relief outing. On June 26 vs. Arizona, he recorded a career-high eight strikeouts. Hernandez earned his first career win on July 11 vs. Milwaukee, and then he was placed on 10-day DL on August 24 with a right third finger blister. He returned from rehab and reinstated from DL on September 4. He did not allow a run in 12 of his last 17 appearances and went 2-2 with 2.92 ERA (24.2/8) over that span, with 19 hits and nine walks to 22 strikeouts. Hernandez had 2-5, 3.14 (43.0/15) marks in 21 games (four starts) at home, while going 0-2, 9.13 (22.2/23) in 11 games (two starts) on the road. In 26 relief appearances, he was 2-2 with 5.31 ERA (40.2/24); in six starts, he went 0-5 with 5.04 ERA (25.0/14). He pitched 2.0-or-more innings in 10 of his 26 relief appearances.
