Home Plate Project
Giants players Evan Longoria and Tony Watson delivered a $30,000 check on Saturday to the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank to battle childhood hunger. The funds are courtesy of Major League Baseball's "Home Plate Project" initiative.
With the support of many community partners, the Miracle League of Arizona is able to offer a safe and successful baseball experience for children, teens and adults with disabilities or special health care needs. Our players can start at the age of four and participate well into adulthood. There are 24 different teams for the various age and skill levels, including a competitive division for more advanced players. In addition to an accessible field and stadium, we have constructed an adaptive playground, picnic area and batting cages on site to enhance the family experience. The stadium includes accessible restrooms and three caregiver restrooms, complete with showers.
Launched by GivingTuesday as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, #GivingTuesdayNow (May 5, 2020), brought millions of people together to express their generosity through acts of kindness, donations of goods, time and money, notes of compassion, advocacy for causes, and care for family and friends. People from over 145 countries came together, for one day of shared solidarity, to present a united front of hope, generosity and kindness in a time when many are facing challenges due to the pandemic. The day raised $503M in 24 hours to support front line organizations.
Players for the Planet was founded by Major League Baseball player Chris Dickerson with the goal of uniting professional athletes to create positive change for our environment. As an organization, PFTP works to connect professional athletes, sports teams, and organizations with actionable opportunities to serve and protect our natural world and the environment. It is our ultimate goal to support the professional sports industry in becoming a leading example of ecologically conscious, environmentally responsible, and sustainable practices worldwide.
