Derrick Favors

BIOGRAPHY

Derrick Favors was born on July 15, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a forward in the NBA.

Favors began his career playing prep basketball at South Atlanta High School. In his senior season, Favors averaged 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 steals, 2.0 assists. He led the school to the Georgia Class AAA state championship in a game in his senior season, in the game he had 38 points and 21 rebounds. Favors was named a McDonald's All-American and a participant in the Jordan Brand Classic. He would finish his prep career with school records in points 2,341 points, 1,511 rebounds, and 741 blocks. He would commit to Georgia Tech to play his collegiate basketball.

At Georgia Tech, Favors would average 11.8 points, 8.7 rebounds while shooting 62.5% from the field. During the ACC Tournament, Favors averaged 17 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. In his lone season at Georgia Tech, Favors was named ACC Rookie of the Year and named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. On April 9th, 2010 Favors announced he was entering the NBA Draft. 

With the 3rd pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, the New Jersey Nets selected Favors. With the pick, Favors was the youngest player to ever play for the Nets at the time. He would be named to the Second Team All-Rookie Team for his effort in his rookie season. On February 23, 2011, Favors was traded, along with Devin Harris and two future first-round picks, to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Deron Williams. As a player with the Jazz, Favors would become a top 5 rebounder in franchise history. He would also play becoming the 12th player to play at least 500 games with the franchise. 

On July 7, 2019, Favors was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for two second-round picks previously acquired from the Golden State Warriors.
