Darryl Johnson

BIOGRAPHY

Darryl Johnson Jr. was born on April 4, 1997, in Kingsland, Georgia. He is a defensive end for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. 

Johnson studied at the University of North Carolina and is a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills. In his early years, he played varsity football at Camden County under Welton Coffey and was an athletic talent who played defensive end and tight end in high school. 

After redshirting in 2015, he played in 12 games with no starts in the 2016 season making 26 tackles where 10 were solo, 6 ½ tackles for loss and two sacks. Six of his tackles came on special teams and he also recovered a fumble during the season. He played a huge role in the Aggies 45-14 win at Delaware State on Nov. 12 with seven tackles were four were unassisted, two tackles for loss and a half sack and he had four tackles, all assisted, and a half sack in the Aggies thrilling 52-35 win at Bethune-Cookman on October 15. In the 2017 season, he started all 12 games making 40 tackles where 25 of them were unassisted with 15.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He was fifth in the conference and 37th in the nation in tackles for loss and finished 12th nationally and third in the MEAC in forced fumbles. He also ranked 11th in the conference in sacks and finished with six tackles where two of them were unassisted, 1.5 sacks and broke up a pass in the Aggies 35-31 upset win over Charlotte on September 16. He had a season-high 3.0 tackles for loss and two sacks in the Aggies crucial 24-20 win over Bethune-Cookman on October 21. By the end of the season, Johnson earned first-team All-MEAC honors in 2017. 

Overall, Johnson was ultra-productive during his time in North Carolina, earning first-team FCS All-American honors and the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year award after racking up 50 tackles and finishing among the FCS leaders with 19 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks in 12 games in 11 starts. He decided to enter the 2019 NFL Draft to try to make it three straight years that an A&T player is selected in the NFL draft. Johnson was selected in the seventh-round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.
