Kyle Emanuel

BIOGRAPHY

Kyle Emanuel was born on August 16, 1991, in Schuyler, Nebraska. He is a linebacker for Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL.  Emanuel attended Schuyler Central High School and played college football at North Dakota State University.

During high school, Emanuel rushed for 1,318 yards and 15 TDs, had 179 receiving yards and one TD, and recorded 84 tackles. He was selected to 2010 Shrine Bowl also three-time all-district and rushed for 1,461 yards and 16 TDs as a junior.

During his freshman season in 2011, Emanuel had an impressive first season at the collegiate level, starting in eight of 15 games played. He contributed at defensive end and special teams. Emanuel finished with 41 tackles including four tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

In 2012 during his sophomore season, Emanuel had an honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Football Conference. He played in all 15 games including ten starting assignments. Emanuel credited with 49 tackles including 27 solos, 12 tackles for loss, six QB hurries and five sacks.

During his junior season in 2013, Emanuel made all 15 starts at right end. He had 47 tackles including a team-high 10.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks and added eight quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. He had career-high 2.0 sacks in the season-opening win at Kansas State.

In 2014 as a senior, Emanuel led the FCS with 19.5 sacks and 32.5 tackles for loss. He was the winner of the 2014 Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. Emanuel finished his career sixth in FCS history and fourth in Missouri Valley Football Conference history with 35.5 career sacks. He played in all 61 career games including 49 starts.

The San Diego Chargers selected Emanuel in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. On May 14, 2015, the San Diego Chargers signed Emanuel to a four-year contract.

On April 4, 2019, Emanuel announced his retirement from the NFL.
