Montre Hartage

BIOGRAPHY

Montre Garius Hartage was born on June 16, 1997, in Cordele, Georgia. He is a cornerback for the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. He played college football at Northwestern University.

At High School, he was a three-star star prospect according to 247Sports, a two-time All-Region First Team honoree and tabbed for the All-Area First Team. Hartage recorded 70 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and four blocked kicks as a senior at Crisp County High School. Montre also played wide receiver, making 25 receptions for more than 400 yards and four touchdowns in 2014, made 68 tackles and notched three interceptions as a junior and was named All-Region Second Team as a sophomore in 2012. He was a recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award.

During the first year on college in 2015, Hartage played in 13 games as a special teamer and reserve cornerback, recording two tackles in a shutout victory over Minnesota. He was one of only two first years to see the field in all 13 games.

For the 2016 season, he won an honorable Mention All-Big Ten as voted by the conference media, starting all 13 games at cornerback. He led the Wildcats’ with five interceptions and nine pass breakups and was second among Big Ten defensive backs with five interceptions. Montre finished the season third on the team with 48 solo tackles, having a career-high nine tackles versus Illinois State and Indiana, all nine tackles versus the Redbirds were unassisted. He recorded his first career interception versus the Redbirds, had an interception in the Wildcats’ Homecoming win over Indiana, picked off two passes in the ’Cats’ 45-17 win at Purdue, also had a season-high two pass breakups versus the Boilermakers, was named the Wildcats’ Defensive Big Playmaker following the Indiana game and earned Northwestern’s Defensive Player of the Game honors following the Purdue contest.

On 2017, Hartage started all 13 games at cornerback, extending his consecutive games started streak to 26, finishing the season second among NU defensive backs with 57 solo tackles, making at least two solo stops in 10 games, including a stretch of seven straight from Sept. 9 to Oct. 11. He recorded a career-high 11 tackles at Duke, had a career-high three assisted tackles and his first interception of the season versus the Blue Devils, recovered his first career fumble and intercepted his second pass of the year in the Wildcats' 39-0 win over Minnesota and intercepted his third pass of the season in the second quarter of the Music City Bowl. The interception was the eighth of his career, moving him into a tie for 10th in program history.

As a freshman in 2018, Montre appeared in 12 games as a senior starting cornerback, making 51 tackles and breaking up 15 passes, while also coming up with two interceptions. He was a First Team All-Big Ten by the media, and Third Team by the coaches. He had an interception to go with six tackles and a pass breakup against Purdue (8/30), made two pass breakups and four tackles against Akron (9/15), three pass breakups against Michigan State (10/6), recorded a season-high nine tackles with 1.5 TFL against Nebraska (10/13), recorded a career-high four pass breakups against Wisconsin, the most in a game by any NU player since at least 2000, while also recovering a fumble (10/27), and made his second interception of the season against Ohio State, tying him for fifth all-time on the NU interceptions leaderboard (12/1). He was Academic All-Big Ten.

Montre signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2019.

Hartage was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants on April 28, 2020. He signed a reserve/future contract on January 4, 2021.
